What fails: The initialVersions section in .changeset/pre.json tracks outdated package versions, causing the changeset system to lose sync with actual package versions during pre-release cycles.

Result:

  • .changeset/pre.json line 41: "@workflow/vite": "4.0.0-beta.1"

Expected: Both files should show the same version. The package.json is the source of truth, and the pre.json initialVersions should match the actual current package versions as documented in packages/vite/CHANGELOG.md which confirms 4.0.0-beta.2 was released in PR #501.
