That is ... a bold move given that DFKI has contributed zero line of code here ? At least asking about it would be a better way to handle this ?

This is why this is a PR here: In order to discuss it (i.e. ask about it), in the other repo, where such a request came the licence was stated in the manifest.xml.

Did not want to start a fight here - however: code not subject to any license is not great. Basically noone except the copyright holders are allowed to use this code in any way. However, here it is not really 100% clear, who the copyright holders even are - they could be different from the authors.

I don't want to tell you how to license your code, but code without any license is just a legal nightmare - if you try and take software licenses seriously.
