Hello, my name is Jonathan Martin and I'm a senior CS student at the University of Houston - Downtown. I've always been interested in working with financial applications of computer science, so for my senior project I'll be working with cryptocurrencies, in particular their trends and trying to predict them. Should you sell? Should you buy? Should you wait? I'd like to make it easier for the everyday person to make smart trading decisions when selling or buying cryptocurrencies.
Faculty Mentor: Professor Cyril Harris
I'm designing an Android application that will do the following:
-
Use a tweaked Ichimoku Cloud along with other indicators to predict trends (buy, sell, or hold)
-
Generate signals for 3 cryptocurrencies initially (arguably the most popular right now): Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Litecoin
-
Allow users to pin or watch currencies they're most interested in
-
Provide accurate and up to date information
-
Have an easy-to-use interface (Material Design)
There isn't a simple Android application. for the average person that doesn't require learning or configuration to receive predictions on whether to sell or buy cryptocurrencies.
If this application is accurate at all, it can then be optimized and expanded upon to provide better signals and analysis of trends. There is a lot of public interest, room for growth, and potential profit to be made in this area of study.

I'm good with Java, but Android programming offers unique challenges with storage, access, XML formatting, and UX design.
-
The Ichimoku Cloud is great for more established investments, but will require specific tweaks to be viable for cryptocurrencies. More indicators will need to be used as well.
-
Publishing it to the Google Play Store will require that it meets requirements that I am not entirely familiar with; additionally I'd like to make sure it meets Material Design guidelines.

There is limited time this semester for me to work on this, I'm doing 16 credit hours (6 classes) and I'm looking for a job after graduation. But I'm pretty sure every senior student is in this same position, so I'll do my best.
