Copilot AI commented Nov 21, 2025

GitHub Actions builds failing with "no space left on device" due to excessive texlive packages in Docker image.

Changes

Removed 6 texlive packages totaling ~850MB:

  • texlive-fonts-extra (~500MB) - decorative fonts
  • texlive-bibtex-extra (~50MB) - redundant with biber
  • texlive-extra-utils (~100MB) - non-essential utilities
  • texlive-lang-german (~50MB) - language-specific
  • texlive-science (~100MB) - domain-specific
  • texlive-xetex (~50MB) - engine-specific

Minimal installation retains:

  • texlive + texlive-latex-extra for core LaTeX functionality
  • lmodern, latexmk, biber, pandoc for common workflows
- texlive-bibtex-extra \
- texlive-extra-utils \
- texlive-fonts-extra \
- texlive-lang-german \
  texlive-latex-extra \
- texlive-science \
- texlive-xetex \

Example document (example.tex) compiles successfully with minimal installation.

Original prompt

the automatic build via github actions is failing as there is no space left on the device. please make the latex installation more minimal i.e., by not installing texlive-fonts-extra or stuff that takes up much space and is probably not needed.
