This application is a recommendation engine for alternative products, designed to reduce friction for non-"green" aware users when buying groceries. The application presents itself as an e-commerce store, allowing users to add products they typically purchase (using the Walmart API) to their cart.
In the cart screen, the recommendation engine suggests better alternatives for the user's selected items. Users can choose recommendations based on different criteria, such as:
- Eco-friendly: Products with a lower environmental impact.
- Healthy: Healthier options compared to the user's original choices.
- Locally Sourced: Products sourced from local producers.
- Balanced: A mix of the above criteria.
To provide detailed food information and recommendations, the app integrates with:
- Open Food Facts: An open source food database for detailed product information.
- Walmart API: For product selection and cart management.
- Gemini Flash API: Used for enhanced data and recommendations.
This project was created as part of the Seneca Hackathon 2025 and won the Esri Innovation Award.
