add the result to the existing content can now handle that the target object is empty, considering it equivalent to being zero
to the initElement() call
problem->initElement() call. Move some static functions to anonymous namespace.

Discovered this when running the DarcyCorrection solver with a Lagrange patch (easier to compare Penalty and AL methods on similar discretizations). Its initElement method needs the element index which is stored in the fe object.
