Summary

Refactored BrushSettingsPanel layout to stack labels and number inputs above sliders, and fixed brush size keybinding limits to match the updated 1-250 range.

Changes

  • What:
    • Reorganized BrushSettingsPanel UI to display labels and number inputs in a row above each slider (instead of side-by-side), creating a cleaner vertical layout with better visual hierarchy.
    • Updated brush size increase/decrease keybindings to clamp between 1-250 (previously 1-100) to match the refactored slider limits.
    • Added setting for color picker keybinding
  • Breaking: None

Review Focus

  • Verify the stacked layout (label + number input above slider) works well across different panel widths
  • Confirm all slider controls properly sync with their corresponding number inputs
  • Test brush size keybindings (increase/decrease) respect the new 1-250 limits

22-44: Add accessibility attributes to brush shape buttons.

The brush shape selectors are interactive elements implemented as divs but lack proper accessibility attributes. They need role="button", aria-pressed, aria-label, tabindex="0", and keyboard event handlers to be accessible to screen reader users and keyboard navigation.

🔎 Proposed fix
         <div
           class="maskEditor_sidePanelBrushShapeCircle hover:bg-comfy-menu-bg"

Learning: In the ComfyUI_frontend project, Zod is on v3.x. Do not suggest Zod v4 standalone validators (z.uuid, z.ulid, z.cuid2, z.nanoid) until an upgrade to Zod 4 is performed. When reviewing TypeScript files (e.g., src/platform/remote/comfyui/jobs/jobTypes.ts) validate against Zod 3 capabilities and avoid introducing v4-specific features; flag any proposal to upgrade or incorporate v4-only validators and propose staying with compatible 3.x patterns.

Learning: In the ComfyUI_frontend repository, lint rules require keeping 'import type' statements separate from non-type imports, even if importing from the same module. Do not suggest consolidating them into a single import statement. Ensure type imports remain on their own line (import type { ... } from 'module') and regular imports stay on separate lines.

Learning: Prefer pure function declarations over function expressions (e.g., use function foo() { ... } instead of const foo = () => { ... }) for pure functions in the repository. Function declarations are more functional-leaning, offer better hoisting clarity, and can improve readability and tooling consistency. Apply this guideline across TypeScript files in Comfy-Org/ComfyUI_frontend, including story and UI component code, except where a function expression is semantically required (e.g., callbacks, higher-order functions with closures).

Learning: This repository uses CI automation to format code (pnpm format). Do not include manual formatting suggestions in code reviews for Comfy-Org/ComfyUI_frontend. If formatting issues are detected, rely on the CI formatter or re-run pnpm format. Focus reviews on correctness, readability, performance, accessibility, and maintainability rather than style formatting.

Learning: In Vue files across the ComfyUI_frontend repo, when a button is needed, prefer the repo's common button components from src/components/button/ (IconButton.vue, TextButton.vue, IconTextButton.vue) over plain HTML <button> elements. These components wrap PrimeVue with the project’s design system styling. Use only the common button components for consistency and theming, and import them from src/components/button/ as needed.

Learning: In Vue single-file components, allow inline Tailwind CSS class strings for static classes and avoid extracting them into computed properties solely for readability. Prefer keeping static class names inline for simplicity and performance. For dynamic or conditional classes, use Vue bindings (e.g., :class) to compose classes.

Applies to all Vue files in the repository (e.g., src/**/*.vue) where Tailwind utilities are used for static styling.

Learning: In Vue 3.5+ with <script setup>, when using defineProps<Props>() with partial destructuring (e.g., const { as = 'button', class: customClass = '' } = defineProps<Props>() ), props that are not destructured (e.g., variant, size) stay accessible by name in the template scope. This pattern is valid: you can destructure only a subset of props for convenience while referencing the remaining props directly in template expressions. Apply this guideline to Vue components across the codebase (all .vue files).

Learning: In Vue components, avoid creating single-use variants for common UI components (e.g., Button and other shared components). Aim for reusable variants that cover multiple use cases. It’s acceptable to temporarily mix variant props with inline Tailwind classes when a styling need is unique to one place, but plan and consolidate into shared, reusable variants as patterns emerge across the codebase.

Learning: In the ComfyUI_frontend repository, for Vue components, do not add aria-label to buttons that have visible text content (e.g., buttons containing <span> text). The visible text provides the accessible name. Use aria-label only for elements without visible labels (e.g., icon-only buttons). Learning: In Comfy-Org/ComfyUI_frontend, in Vue component files, when a filled icon is required (e.g., 'pi pi-circle-fill'), you may mix PrimeIcons with Lucide icons since Lucide lacks filled variants. This mixed usage is acceptable when one icon library does not provide an equivalent filled icon. Apply consistently across Vue components in the src directory where icons are used, and document the rationale when a mixed approach is chosen.

Learning: In the ComfyUI frontend queue system, useQueuePendingTaskCountStore().count indicates the number of tasks in the queue, where count = 1 means a single active/running task and count > 1 means there are pending tasks in addition to the active task. Therefore, in src/components/actionbar/ComfyActionbar.vue, enable the 'Clear Pending Tasks' button only when count > 1 to avoid clearing the currently running task. The active task should be canceled using the 'Cancel current run' button instead. This rule should be enforced via a conditional check on the queue count, with appropriate disabled/aria-disabled states for accessibility, and tests should verify behavior for count = 1 and count > 1.

73-73: LGTM! Brush size limits correctly updated.

The changes align with the refactored slider limits in BrushSettingsPanel.vue (1-500 range) and provide finer control with a step of 2 instead of 4.

Also applies to: 79-79

src/components/maskeditor/BrushSettingsPanel.vue (5)

61-86: LGTM! Thickness control properly implemented.

The stacked layout with numeric input above the slider is well-structured, and the 1-500 range matches the updated keybinding limits in maskeditor.ts. The two-way sync between the number input and slider is correctly implemented with proper clamping.

88-113: LGTM! Opacity control properly implemented.

The numeric input and slider are correctly synced with appropriate decimal precision (0.01 step) for opacity values.

115-140: LGTM! Hardness control properly implemented.

The numeric input and slider are correctly synced with appropriate decimal precision, following the same pattern as opacity.

142-167: LGTM! Step Size control properly implemented.

The numeric input and slider are correctly synced with appropriate integer constraints (1-100 range).

16-16: The i18n keys maskEditor.brushShape and maskEditor.colorSelector are already present in src/locales/en/main.json (lines 965-966). No action needed.

22-32: Consider simplifying the conditional background styling.

The background styling logic is duplicated between the :class and :style bindings. The bg-transparent in class and the conditional background in style could be consolidated using only Tailwind classes with conditional binding.

🔎 Suggested simplification

-          class="maskEditor_sidePanelBrushShapeCircle bg-transparent hover:bg-comfy-menu-bg"

201-204: Consider using more specific event types for better type safety.

This was noted in a previous review. The handlers use the generic Event type requiring type assertions. Using InputEvent would improve type safety, though the assertion to HTMLInputElement would still be needed for accessing .value.

44-55: Add accessible label association for the color input.

The label text is not programmatically associated with the color input, which impacts screen reader users. Use a <label> element with a for attribute or add aria-labelledby.

🔎 Proposed fix
     <!-- Color -->
     <div class="flex flex-col gap-3 pb-3">
-      <span class="text-left text-xs font-sans text-[var(--descrip-text)]">
+      <label
+        for="brush-color-input"
+        class="text-left text-xs font-sans text-[var(--descrip-text)]"
+      >
         {{ t('maskEditor.colorSelector') }}
-      </span>
+      </label>
       <input
+        id="brush-color-input"
         type="color"
         class="h-10 rounded-md cursor-pointer"
         :value="store.rgbColor"
         @input="onColorChange"
       />
     </div>

57-163: Extract repeated slider-input pattern into a reusable component.

The same template structure (label + number input + SliderControl) is repeated four times. This violates the DRY principle and increases maintenance burden.

🔎 Suggested approach

Create a BrushSliderInput.vue component:

<script setup lang="ts">
import { clamp } from 'es-toolkit'
import SliderControl from './controls/SliderControl.vue'

const { label, min, max, step } = defineProps<{
  label: string
  min: number
  max: number
  step: number
}>()

const modelValue = defineModel<number>({ required: true })

const onInputChange = (e: Event) => {
  const value = clamp(Number((e.target as HTMLInputElement).value), min, max)
  modelValue.value = value
}
</script>

<template>
  <div class="flex flex-col gap-2">
    <div class="flex items-center justify-between">
      <span class="text-left text-xs font-sans text-[var(--descrip-text)]">
        {{ label }}
      </span>
      <input
        type="number"
        class="w-16 px-2 py-1 text-sm text-center border rounded-md bg-[var(--comfy-menu-bg)] border-[var(--p-form-field-border-color)] text-[var(--input-text)]"
        :min="min"
        :max="max"
        :step="step"
        :value="modelValue"
        @input="onInputChange"
      />
    </div>
    <SliderControl
      class="flex-1"
      label=""
      :min="min"
      :max="max"
      :step="step"
      v-model="modelValue"
    />
  </div>
</template>

Then use it in the parent:

<BrushSliderInput
  :label="t('maskEditor.thickness')"
  :min="1"
  :max="500"
  :step="1"
  v-model="brushSize"
/>

187-189: Use more specific InputEvent type for input handlers.

The event handlers use the generic Event type which requires type assertions. Using InputEvent would improve type safety for @input handlers.

🔎 Proposed refactor
 /* Color */
-const onColorChange = (e: Event) => {
+const onColorChange = (e: InputEvent) => {
   store.rgbColor = (e.target as HTMLInputElement).value
 }

 /* Handler factory */
 const createHandlers = (
   setter: (value: number) => void,
   min: number,
   max: number
 ) => ({
   onSliderChange: (value: number) => setter(value),
-  onInputChange: (e: Event) => {
+  onInputChange: (e: InputEvent) => {
     const value = clamp(Number((e.target as HTMLInputElement).value), min, max)
     setter(value)
   }
 })

192-207: Good use of handler factory pattern.

The createHandlers factory effectively reduces boilerplate by generating both slider and input handlers with consistent clamping logic. This is a clean abstraction that pairs well with the imported es-toolkit clamp utility.

98-105: Remove unnecessary async keyword.

The changeBrushSize function doesn't use await or return a Promise, making the async keyword unnecessary.

🔎 Proposed fix
-const changeBrushSize = async (sizeChanger: (oldSize: number) => number) => {
+function changeBrushSize(sizeChanger: (oldSize: number) => number): void {
   if (!isOpened()) return

   const store = useMaskEditorStore()
   const oldBrushSize = store.brushSettings.size
   const newBrushSize = sizeChanger(oldBrushSize)
   store.setBrushSize(newBrushSize)
 }

Based on learnings, prefer function declarations over function expressions for non-closure functions.

191-194: Consider using InputEvent type for better type safety.

This was previously suggested. Using InputEvent instead of Event would provide better type safety for @input handlers.

22-44: Accessibility: Brush shape selectors should use semantic buttons.

The brush shape selectors still use <div> elements with click handlers, making them inaccessible to keyboard users. They lack focus management and proper ARIA attributes.

This was previously flagged. The recommended fix is to replace the <div> elements with <button type="button"> elements and add appropriate ARIA attributes (role="radiogroup" on the container, role="radio" and :aria-checked on each button).

48-59: Accessibility: Color input lacks label association.

The label text is not programmatically associated with the color input, impacting screen reader users.

This was previously flagged. Use a <label> element with for attribute pointing to an id on the input.

This rule should be enforced via a conditional check on the queue count, with appropriate disabled/aria-disabled states for accessibility, and tests should verify behavior for count = 1 and count > 1.

src/stores/maskEditorStore.ts (1)

115-117: Brush size upper bound change looks correct.

The clamp to 250 aligns with the UI slider max in BrushSettingsPanel.vue (lines 71, 81) and the keybinding clamps in maskeditor.ts (lines 73, 79). However, the PR description mentions "1–500 range" which doesn't match the actual implementation of 250. Please update the PR description for accuracy.

src/extensions/core/maskeditor.ts (1)

69-79: LGTM - Keybinding bounds are consistent.

The brush size increase/decrease commands now use step of 2 and clamp to (1, 250), which is consistent with the store and UI slider bounds.

src/components/maskeditor/BrushSettingsPanel.vue (3)

196-212: Handler factory implementation is clean and addresses prior feedback.

The createHandlers factory consolidates the repeated handler logic effectively. The clamp is correctly applied to input changes where users can type arbitrary values.

171-181: LGTM - Imports and setup follow guidelines.

The imports correctly use es-toolkit for clamp and cn from tailwindUtil for class merging, as per coding guidelines.

61-86: Thickness section looks good.

The min/max values (1-250) are consistent with the store's setBrushSize clamp and the keybinding limits in maskeditor.ts.

20-42: Brush shape selectors still use div elements instead of buttons.

A past review flagged that these interactive elements should be semantic <button> elements with proper ARIA attributes for accessibility (keyboard navigation, screen reader support). This concern remains unaddressed.

Consider converting to buttons with role="radio" and aria-checked as suggested in past reviews to improve keyboard accessibility.

46-57: Color input still lacks accessible label association.

A past review noted the label text isn't programmatically associated with the color input. Adding id to the input and for attribute to a <label> element would improve screen reader accessibility.

Learning: When accessing reactive properties from Pinia stores in TypeScript files, avoid using .value on direct property access (e.g., useStore().isOverlayExpanded). Pinia auto-wraps refs when accessed directly, returning the primitive value. The .value accessor is only needed when destructuring store properties or when using storeToRefs().

This rule should be enforced via a conditional check on the queue count, with appropriate disabled/aria-disabled states for accessibility, and tests should verify behavior for count = 1 and count > 1.

src/stores/maskEditorStore.ts (2)

76-77: Store-exposed DOM ref pattern is acceptable here.

Exposing colorInput via the store enables the ColorPicker command to trigger the native color picker programmatically. This is a reasonable approach given the command system architecture, and the cleanup in BrushSettingsPanel.vue (setting it to null on unmount) prevents stale references.

117-119: Brush size clamp updated correctly.

The upper bound change from 500 to 250 aligns with the slider limits in BrushSettingsPanel.vue and the clamp values in the extension commands.

src/components/maskeditor/MaskEditorContent.vue (1)

204-207: No functional changes.

This is a formatting-only change (blank line insertion). The cleanup sequence remains correct.

src/extensions/core/maskeditor.ts (3)

40-47: Well-structured helper with proper guard.

The changeBrushSize helper correctly checks isOpened() before modifying state, preventing unintended brush size changes when the mask editor is closed.

102-112: ColorPicker command properly addresses previous review concerns.

This implementation resolves the issues flagged in past reviews:

  1. Uses store.colorInput?.click() instead of a fragile DOM query (document.querySelector)
  2. Includes the isOpened() guard to prevent triggering when the editor is closed
  3. Avoids type assertions by using the typed store ref directly

94-100: Brush size step and limits updated consistently.

The step change from ±4 to ±2 provides finer control, and the clamp range (1-250) matches both the store's setBrushSize function and the UI slider limits.

src/components/maskeditor/BrushSettingsPanel.vue (2)

173-196: Lifecycle management for colorInput ref is correct.

The onMounted and onBeforeUnmount hooks properly wire and clean up the colorInput reference in the store, preventing stale DOM references after unmount.

74-81: Slider and input now share v-model binding.

The refactor to use v-model instead of separate event handlers addresses the past review suggestion and ensures the slider and numeric input stay synchronized.
