USB Drive Fails to mount

We have a USB drive in our SystemCore that we are putting our logs too. We have noticed that twice now at MTTD that the drive has failed to mount.

We found the issue when we went to SSH our logs and found that the U folder is empty.

Checking the SystemCore UI after revealed that the thumb drive does not even show up under the "Storage Devices Section"

We ran some commands in terminal and found that sda1 directory doesn't exist.

During all of this the drive was securely in the USB port on the unit. Furthermore, if we power cycled the drive would mount and logs would be accessible again.

We are using Alpha OS 7, and Wpilib Alpha 2

There was a few variants of this happening:

1. The drive doesn't mount at all
2. The drive mounts but
   a. filezilla thinks /U/ is empty
   b. an ls of /U/ over ssh does list the directory with logs

@AniKashyap you were using a 64gb flash drive, right?

Yes, we are using a 64gb flash drive. I believe it is formatted FAT32

If /dev/sda(1) doesn't exist, it's not even getting picked up by the kernel. The system logs may (or may not) have more information.

Next time I have access to the unit I can try to grab those logs. Is there anything else that could be useful?

Hi @AniKashyap, this is something that has been fixed in the new hardware. Can you post the drive you are using so we can double check with your drive specifically?

@bhjelstrom can you elaborate on what changes there are in the new hardware? We have also had USB mount / logging issues and are wondering if we should spend time debugging it further or if there's a known issue with the current hardware. Thanks!
