In the original Spring SaLaD, 3D sites were edited using a 3D interface. While visually nice, editing was an extremely difficult task. So VCell's interface works along a 2D cross section of the 3D space.
This is ideal, but it would be nice to be able to generate a 3D visualization as a way for the user to check their work. No editing capabilities, just the ability to see, rotate, etc.
