Other platforms

Now that the library is its own crate, we could make bots for other platforms. This issue serves both to track what bots exist or are planned and to discuss some logistical questions.

Questions

• Where should those bots live? Their own repo, making reddit the plattform for development, or all in this repo? (For the latter, we would need to figure out tagging and workflow though)
• Where should the bots run? It will still take a while for me to set up a working home-server. If it comes to a combined server, then centrally.

• Reddit (custom api handler)
• Lemmy (lemmy_client) fediverse reddit
• Mastodon (mastodon-async) fediverse twitter
• Discord (serenity)
• Matrix (matrix-sdk) federated messenger discord like
• Tumblr (tumblr_api, unfinished, so also https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/api/v2)
• etc.
• Combined maybe?

It might make sense to make a general ActivityPub (Fediverse) bot, with activitypub_federation or use one on a general platform (like lemmy), if mentions work ccross-platform.

I'd prefer to have them in their own repos. The reddit-bot is kind of an exception as that's the bot everything started with.

I could run them on my server and provide you with similar boards that already exist for the reddit-bot, if you're interested. You can take them over at any moment you like of course, I don't plan to take them hostage.

Not sure if it even fits, but I heard there's a modern teamspeak (never used the new one yet), maybe this could also be a potential platform

@aviralgarg05 This is a huge task. You will have to write a whole module, write tests and document it, I'm not sure if you want to tackle that.

@aviralgarg05 I agree with tolik that this is a little much, you would need to make a new crate, with only a slightly smaller scope than factorion-bot-reddit (don't need to research and manually handle api requests).

If you do choose to add a bot, I would recommend Discord, as it has quite a good library/framework, and is relatively simple to connect. (I was able to make a very basic version in less than an hour, but you should also handle mentions, summons, logging, etc.) Second choice would be Lemmy, but that one is a lot more manual (need to write a program loop, save seen ones, etc.).

Also organizationally, do you just need to have a pull request merged, or should there be an issue attached? In that case I would separate out the sub issues, as this is more a tracking issue.

What we can do is, build up a basic version with discord, then line up the features as sub-issues and keep working over it altogether
