Can I use it for standard block access (i.e., not optimized)?

In the README.md I see that this library has been developed for optmized block access - or, this is what I uderstand from German.

I wonder if this si the only supported access, or if I can use it to access "old" standard DBs (not optimized - data accessed by its offset).
My primary goal is adding TLS to "old-style communication" running in old S7comm.
