Description

@mabdolla
  • Please tell us about yourself (include an email address):
My name is Mohammad Abdolla Khan, based in Norway. You can contact me at mohammad.abdolla95@gmail.com.

  • Your purpose in using this API:
Supporting the translation process and powering an educational platform where users can read and study hadith in Norwegian.

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I am working on an Islamic educational project focused on making authentic hadith literature accessible in the Norwegian language.

The first initiative is to produce a complete Norwegian translation of Riyad al-Saliheen by Imam al-Nawawi.

Norway has a Muslim population of approximately 200,000, and to my knowledge, no complete Norwegian translation of this collection currently exists. The goal is to make this classical work accessible to Norwegian-speaking Muslims, particularly younger generations more comfortable in Norwegian than in Arabic or English.

I would like to kindly request:

  1. Access to the sunnah.com API for Riyad al-Saliheen (Arabic text and Urdu/English reference translation)
  2. Permission to use the content as the basis for a Norwegian translation intended for publication
  3. Confirmation that local caching of the data, with periodic synchronization, is acceptable to minimize unnecessary API load

The translation will be based on the Arabic text, with English used only as a supporting reference. All content from sunnah.com will be clearly credited. Before publication, the translation will be reviewed and approved by qualified local scholars and imams.

The translated material is intended to be:

  • Published as a Norwegian-language book
  • Made available on an educational website to improve access to hadith literature in Norwegian (baabulilm.no)

I would also be happy to share the completed Norwegian translation with you free of charge, should you wish to include it on your platform in the future.

  • API rate limits:

    • Maximum requests per second: 1-2
    • Maximum requests per day: 1-100
With local caching reducing actual usage significantly over time
  • Is your use case better served by having an offline dump of hadith data or programmatic API access?

The use case would benefit from API access for development and initial synchronization. However, long-term usage would rely primarily on local caching with periodic updates to ensure efficiency and reduce load on the API.

  • What are the languages in which would you like hadith data?
    Arabic, Urdu and English

  • What programming language will your API client be in?
Stack: Backend (Java/Spring or Node.js) + web frontend (Angular/React), with local database storage and sync logic.
