This issue happens because Storybook persists the viewport selection in its global state, which is saved to localStorage or sessionStorage and rehydrated on page refresh. When you reset the viewport after a refresh, the reset action updates the global state, but the persisted value from storage can override it, so the reset doesn't appear to work as expected. The documentation does not mention this behavior or provide a workaround (source).

You can try manually clearing your browser's localStorage/sessionStorage for Storybook, or programmatically resetting the viewport global to its default value. If you can provide a minimal reproduction (repo or steps), it will help with further investigation.

@ghengeveld I can't reproduce this on the SB monorepo. Is there a particular environment where it occurs?
