Consider adding helpers for navigation bar styling

One area we're really lacking for in NC that we tend to use a lot in projects is around navigation and tab bars. 
I would be nice to add some helpers and connivence to these to make setting them up in apps easier.

A good start here would be to spend a couple hours evaluating what improvements we might be able to make and evaluating what the impact would be on the current APIs
