error in loadding 'httpuv' library

Recently, I tried to load 'httpuv' package to use devtools (using install.packages("httpuv")), but it failed. Once installed, I try to load it using library(httpuv) and the following error pops up:

  Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘httpuv’ in inDL(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now), ...):
   unable to load shared object 'd:/Program Files/R/R-4.3.3/library/httpuv/libs/x64/httpuv.dll':
    LoadLibrary failure:  The specified module could not be found.

In fact, I browsed that location the httpuv.dll is there. I did not know how to solve it.

I'm having the same issue under the same OS with httpuv version 1.6.15. Until a few months ago, I had used packages such as devtools that (unbeknownst to me) depend on httpuv routinely, and never encountered this problem. I don't exactly recall the sequence of events, but I think it started after updating some packages. I'm wondering if newer versions of httpuv no longer work on Win7 for some reason, as it does work fine for me under Win10.

If htpuv no longer works on Win7, it's likely because of larger changes in the R ecosystem, in particular with compiled packages, that are the cause. We haven't explicitly stopped supporting Win7, but considering that Win7 is no longer supported for security updates by Microsoft, we can't guarantee any level of support.

Thanks for the response; fair enough. When this first came up I spent a while trying various downgrades and still couldn't make it work. I suspect you're right that it has to do with multiple moving parts in R.

This does also affect Windows Server 2016 with extended support ending on January 12, 2027.
