Exclude .gitignore files from release tarballs

We import upstream releases in our own git repository, much like what happens with the debian packages on salsa.debian.org

Just noticed that we were missing some files due to .gitignore being shipped in the release files, which I don't think is actually needed.

If I understand you correctly, you want to emulate an own "Salsa" - which is also a collaboration service, based on Git.

I think keeping .gitignore is a useful thing.

What files you miss?

I randomly selected a file from the list and found that both in Salsa repository and tarball.

I don't understand why did your git skipped that - for eg. apache2/others/libinjection/misc/home.html.

Because it's in their .gitignore file.

Just extract the release tarball and run git init and git add . then you can see the missing files with git status --ignored.

I'm not saying it's wrong to include the .gitignore files, it's just inconvenient in my situation 🫣
