render markdown (and also allow raw access) in code view

The README markdown is not rendered properly — headings, code blocks, and general formatting appear broken.

It seems this was working before and broke very recently.

Expected: normal Markdown rendering.
Actual: incorrect formatting.

we never rendered markdown in the code view - we only highlight the code - although we have talked about possibly doing this
