With the levels of literacy and numeracy in mind, the school has been working on a range of targeted resources in the Literacy and Numeracy Space. The ‘HEAL’ program aims to support students in reaching an EAL/D level of 4 and an appropriate level of numeracy skill to access the ‘Mathematics Essentials’ stage one (penultimate year) SACE course.

We hosted a half-day seminar on using STACK in Nagoya University, welcoming its developer, Prof. C. Sangwin. During the seminar, Prof. Nakamura reported on student research analysing STACK answer data using Bayesian Knowledge Tracing, highlighting the importance of objectivity in evaluating knowledge acquisition. Prof. Fukui discussed implementing STACK quizzes to assess understanding in lectures on calculus and linear algebra for data analysis, and debated methods for setting time limits. Prof. Yoshitomi reported on utilising Parson's problems in his own linear algebra course to verify conceptual understanding. Finally, Prof. Sangwin delivered a talk detailing Parson's problems, emphasising the importance of generating trees as a correct answer flow for sorting to enable true/false evaluation. Following the seminar, we enjoyed Nagoya cuisine near Nagoya Station. Notably, before the seminar began, several of us had lunch together and coincidentally encountered one of Prof. Sangwin's former colleagues from his time at the University of Birmingham, highlighting how small the world can be.
