Bug description
I'm using Lenovo D330-10IGM with touchpad as a tablet (keyboard not attached).
-
I see various issues with the virtual keyboard first when I'm starting to use the document viewer ('Dokumentenbetrachter in German'). There I hide the menu-bar, unfortunately. This menubar can only! be shown again, pressing the 'Alt' key here. This however is not possible (without physical keyboard), as the virtual keyboard seem to be not forwarding the Alt-key to the application. This is just an example for Ctrl-key usage
-
I also tried to figure out how to setup the virtual keyboard, so it is accessible seamlessly for 'touchpad only' operation always. So I put it in the task-bar. In that case when trying to enter letters in the search field, and opening the 'virtual keyboard' from taskbar, the Mint Application chooser is closed, as the virtual keyboard seem to be the active new application. ->not useable here.
-
Then I put the virtual keyboard it in the starting application, hoping it would persist in the systemtray when closing like a driver , it unfortunately is not accessible in the system tray, bottom right corner, I only need to find it in the Mint application chooser again (and not being able to enter letters via virtual keyboard , chicken egg problem :-)).
So I see various issues with the 'touchpad only mode' and using the virtual keyboard does not really support this seamlessly.
Steps to reproduce
- Hide menu bar in 'Document viewer' application, and try to enable it again with pressing the Alt-key on virtual keyboard
- Move Virtual keyboard to task bar and try to type words in search field of Mint Application menu. the latter should not close after first letter
- Configure Virtual keyboard as an application at startup, use it and try to find it in systray after closing to easily access it for various applications in turn
Expected behavior
- Pressing Alt-key on virtual keyboard should enable menu bar in 'Documet viewer', Alt-key and all Ctrl-keys should get forwarded to applications so these can be used to control correctly
- Entering letters in Mint application menu form virtual keyboard should not close the Mint application menu
- There should be a way to configure the virtual keyboard in a way, so that it is acessible always from the systray in bottom/right corner like the clock, printer queue ....
Additional information
Dont't think that this is related to my device only, but it is important for seamless touch only mode. I also tried to use the 'onboard' app, but it neither forward the Alt-key and other Ctrl key e.g. So I wonder about the issues, a virtual keyboard should be act in the background (like a driver) and forward events to the application thta is active, looks like the virtual keyboard as an app kind off changes the active application.
