diff2 not spotting many changes

This is a tracking issue for me to follow up on. I'm re-engineering NNU, and I'm making a mess of it - however, diffenator2 is not reporting any changes. diffenator3 is spotting them all. I'll dig more into why diff2 is not catching them.
