How to configure custom tool timeout in ADK agent?

I'm building an agent with tools that take a long time to execute. How can I configure custom timeouts per tool?

For example, I have a tool that calls an external API that sometimes takes 30+ seconds.

@dgsecc the cleanest approach is to wrap your slow call with asyncio.wait_for() directly inside your tool function and catch asyncio.TimeoutError to return a graceful error response instead of blocking indefinitely.

If your tool function is synchronous (def, not async def), you'll want asyncio.to_thread() combined with asyncio.wait_for() — a plain blocking call can't be interrupted by the asyncio timeout alone, so the combination is what makes it work.

Also worth noting: is_long_running=True on BaseTool is a separate concept that signals streaming/live-mode behavior — it doesn't set a timeout, so that won't help here.
