Unfortunately doesn't seem to be compatible with NODEMCU with ESP8266

Well... it doesn't run on PC either :-D There are quite a few AVR specific things and it may not be easy to port to ESP8266. But what are you trying to use it for, may be there is a way? Can you share your project code?
