Installation of create-wp-react-app fails

Following the get started documentation, one of the first steps is to run the following command
yarn global add create-wp-react-app

this command fails with the following error message:
error An unexpected error occurred: "https://registry.yarnpkg.com/rxjs/-/rxjs-5.3.2.tgz: Request failed \"404 Not Found\"". i

I tried to install it on macOS Monterey
