Bug description
Adaptive brightness (auto-brightness) results brightness values that are significantly higher than the environment.
Steps to reproduce
- Switch to bright theme to make the brightness mismatch more evident.
- Reboot the device, so the adaptive brightness will return to its default state.
- Turn screen on and open a quite bright page (like the settings screen). Enable adaptive brightness. Place the device in a room with moderate lighting.
- Wait for the adaptive brightness mechanism to react (to make this happen faster, you may disable and re-enable adaptive brightness via the quick settings panel).
- Expected: The resulting brightness is close to or slightly higher than a "nearly-perfectly-white reflectant".
- Actual: The resulting brightness is significantly higher than the ambient and any white reflectant I can find.

Solution
Re-tune adaptive brightness to make the default value more reasonable.
Additional context
You may say that it does not matter if the default adaptive brightness values are imperfect since the user can tell the system about her preferences. But the problem is that the user preferences are not persistent. It will reset after a reboot or after toggling Ultra Dim. Maybe the "brightness preferences not being persistent" problem deserves its own bug report?
