rake db:migrate command fails

Try to clone project and build locally. Following the readme instructions, after the bundle install step, the rake db:migrate command fails with the following. It appears the user table is not being created in sqlite3 and subsequent alter command is failing.

Devise (the authentication gem that is used for Rails Admin, part of our app) requires the User table, and it gets created when Devise is installed.. Try running these commands, and then doing a migration over again afterwards and let us know if that fixes it. Cheers.

It still fails with different error on the second command. I followed your instructions:

rails generate devise:install
rails generate devise User

I get the following error:

Basically it seems like the migrations are not running in a proper order, and in particular the migration that creates the User entity in the database. Try the following to just run that one user migration, and then try the db:migrate over again:

rake db:migrate:redo VERSION=20120928002207

It is still failing with the same error as I initially reported the ALTER TABLE command is still failing. This is the step I did to reproduce the error: (I always start from a fresh copy and delete the old directory).

1. git clone https://github.com/sarl-hackerspace/projectplay-server.git projectplay
2. cd projectplay
3. bundle install
4. rails generate devise:install
5. rails generate devise User
6. rake db:migrate:redo VERSION=20120928002207

Result:

Thanks for your notes and patience yabdi - I've recreated the problem on my end with a fresh install, and was able to get past the error only by commenting out both the devise_create_users.rb and add_devise_to_users.rb migrations. There is some duplication going on with the creation of the User model - that is definitely the problem. I'm still looking into the fix for the repo though - stay tuned.

The way I solved this issue

1. remove "devise_for :users" in routes.db
2. run the command "rails destroy scaffold User"
3. remove add_devise_to_users file in db/migrate
4. re-run "rails generate devise User" to create a brand new devise_create_users file in db/migrate
5. re-run "rake db:migrate"

everything is working fine now.
