Fetch from a local git repo

Is it possible to fetch from a local git repo? Or from any git repo in general?

The current use case was specifically for referencing a public github interface to reference, so this is not possible today. That being said, I'd be open to including this, but it would change the intent a bit, for example there wouldn't be a need to have a public link in the code sample. Maybe you can explain your use case a bit more?
