Check level instructions?

The existing documentation on check levels (https://bout-dev.readthedocs.io/en/stable/user_docs/advanced_install.html#optimisation-and-run-time-checking) is not very precise, and it does not include a description of what's in DCHECK=1. This makes it difficult to decide what level is appropriate when adding new warnings. It would be really useful to have them better defined.

It would also be useful to define which check level should be default for users, and which one for developers.

I would advice for -DCHECK=4 for at least one rhs, and then run with -DCHECK=0.

Long term, it would be nice if we could template the check level, and then do the above automatically.
Check everything is fine for the first rhs, and then lower the level and continue quickly.

Thanks, that is helpful. But what if I want to add warnings - how do I decide which level to put them in?

I don't we have a specific policy for what checks belong at what level, just the more expensive the check, the more likely it should be at a higher level.
