Generated and published reports should get copied from media directory to, for example, https://downloads.cppalliance.org/reports/boost_1_88_0_release_report.pdf via ftp

There are multiple options to implement this:

Method 1. Upload the report to the media bucket, which Django already has access to, in a reports/ folder. On a cron schedule, every 10 minutes, dl.cpp.al will copy the files over, and host them. Advantages: more secure without requiring SSH keys in the website. Easy to implement since the media folder is already used.

Method 2: Add an SSH key as a k8s secret. Have Django scp the file to dl.cpp.al. Advantages: no 10 minute delay. Disadvantages: less secure. requires new functionality for scp.

Let's try Method 1 to begin with.

Sam, worth considering sending dl.cpp.al a ping when a new file is added, rather than having a cron run on that server? IDK what that server's architecture looks like.

That machine is hosting a few static nginx sites such as cpp.al -> cppalliance.org.

What if... there were a not-busy website hosted there. The "ping" contacts a predetermined URL. Nginx logs all visits, normally. The cron script runs once per minute, not every 10 minutes. Once per minute, it checks the log file, to see if an upload was requested.

Another method would be to install a more dynamic PHP website, which runs scripts in the background.
