Assymmetric language switching behavior

What is the problem or limitation you are having?

• Go to the chinese membership page and click language chooser, English, and get english members page.
• From there, click language chooser, Chinese Simplified, and get homepage in Chinese.

Describe the solution you'd like

Make this behavior symmetric -- either always go to homepage, or current page.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Leave as is; people won't be switching languages often

Thanks - we're aware of the issue, but hadn't written it up as a full report yet.

The language switcher should "stay on same page" - that is, if you're looking at the membership page in German, and switch to French, you should land on the French membership page.

What's frustrating is that if you look at the links that are being generated in HTML - this is what they do.

If you open the language switcher, and open the French link in a new tab, you land on the right page.

It's only when you do a normal "same window" link click that, for some reason, you end up on the homepage for French. Sometimes. Sometimes you don't.

Based on investigation yesterday, there's something in MkDocs that claims to be this feature, which it achieves with some sort of dynamic "capture click and rewrite destination" handling... which doesn't appear to work. However, we also haven't worked out how to disable the feature.

We launched the site on the basis that the language switcher does allow language switching, and we can investigate and fix this in a later update. But it is extremely frustrating because the HTML is correct, and if the magic javascript would just Stop Helping...

Same thing is what is happening with the scrollbars... JS features are the worst.
