new install /signup endpoint failure

I followed the ebs/node sample tutorial and after successfully deploying, I tried to run the app and get the post("/signup" failure message when entering a new email signup.

What should /signup be?

Error as seen in chrome dev tools:
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error) /signup:1

IF someone could post an example of what /signup should look like given that we're using Dynamo, that would be helpful.

I had misinterpreted the error message in the browser. When I did an eb logs I saw that my issue was related to permissions and IAM roles. The Ec2 instance couldn't communicate with DynamoDb in my case. To solve this, read the output from eb logs to get more detail on the nature of the problem. /signup is an endpoint defined in app.js. Thanks

Summary

The file iam_policy.json never applied the correct iam policies when building the app in aws. So the node server does not have the permission to add to the database or send SNS notifications.

Details

Finding the Error

When I submit an email in the app I get a 500 error. In the network it shows a 500 error when doing the post /signup request.
I checked the NodeJS Logs it showed the following not authorized to perform: dynamodb:PutItem. Once I gave it access to do so I ran into the same error for SNS so I had to give access for that. I then had an issue because SNS didn't have an email which I then applied and it started to work.

Manual Solution

Dynamo Access

Go to
IAM -> Access Management -> Roles -> (Tab) Permissions
click on Attach policies and attach AmazonDynamoDBFullAccess not for production (Giving access to create and delete tables is bad)

SNS Access

Go to
IAM -> Access Management -> Roles -> (Tab) Permissions
click on Attach policies and attach AmazonSNSFullAccess not for production (creating or deleting topic is bad)

Make sure you give SNS your email
