Iced, a GUI library for Rust, is a better choice than GTK/Libadwaita.

Since this rewrite is already being done in Rust, why not use the Rust-based Iced GUI library instead of GTK/Libadwaita, which often causes UX issues outside of GNOME, particularly for KDE users?

Hi, this project is meant to include a web browser so we can use stremio-web as UI and an mpv integration. AFAIK it's not something doable with Iced. What are your concerns about Gnome app UX under KDE?

sorry for late response didnt notice until now.

not really a expert about iced but its what for Cosmic devs are using and as this is rust app I thought its would be easier to have rust based GUI library. When it comes to using GTK, yes current its not an issue but looking at Gnomes plans for GTK and mainly Libadwaita it seems its going to be huge pain for non-Gnome DEs (mainly KDE).

and what I have been reading gnome is doubling down on their "our way or the highway" views, and GTK/Gnome app compatibility was already a pain for KDE to maintain.

So this is more of future issue, okay not sure how much Libadwaita will affect stremio

but there has been a trend of many major apps moving away from gtk because of this, like recently Audacity and MuseScore or Zrythm...some want to fork gtk2 instead of using Libadawaita like Ardour .....these gtk issues was even talked about a decade ago, aka the famous Subsurface (Linus T. diving app) which moved to Qt (and Linus is famous of hating C++ and yet he preferred moving Qt than using gtk )

....as KDE devs, I'm not a (Gnome/)Libadwaita fan either...as you might have noticed :D

anyway, if iced doesnt work, maybe Qt/qml could be an option as it has rust binding nowdays.

The argument for using a different toolkit when all the "libadwaita/gtk" components are not truly visible is silly. The same can be said for GTK. It's using WebKit at the end of the day, and using Qt/Iced is not going to have any positive impact on other DE users.
