Declare compatibility with older versions?

From what I can see of the history, there should be some backwards compatibility between versions of this library.

Could the relevant conversion(noneFromVersion = ..., noneFromVersion = ..., ...) be added so that tools can take advantage of this fact and not have to bother users about incompatible version messages?

Yes, this should have been in the library already. We will fix that in the next release.
