The issue

With exoplayer:
This video plays for about 30 seconds then pauses. I cannot scrub the video at all.

With mediaplayer, the audio is muted but the player acts normally.

I don't currently have access to any other android devices. Sounds like it's not reproducible on your end? I can try making a small demo scene to confirm all settings align.

It definitely does seem to be the bad audio causing the issues, as it plays fine if you strip the audio out. I'm not sure what must have gone wrong when the video was encoding, because it only has 2 audio frames at the very end of the video.
We think that Mediaplayer copes, because it is a lot less complex than Exoplayer.

I'm trying separately to address the various audio issues (handling edge cases like receiving phone calls while recording, which requires adding silent audio frames to prevent misalignment, and fixing broken streams mid-recording). Still, for now, I've switched back to MediaPlayer until I can be confident all audio issues are sorted.
