now, studies with higher taxa get exemplified, and the `terminal` attribute for them goes to the exemplified taxon not the higher taxon.
This is why in the current tree it looks like lots of studies have _H. sapiens neandertalensis_ (because many studies are mapped to _H. sapiens_).
