Status update (correctness-first): repo has a GoldenTrace JSON format + replay + diff harness covered by CoreSim tests (GoldenTraceHarnessTests.cs + golden_trace_v1.json), but it currently records from a deterministic stub client, not the real FirmwareEngine lockstep backend. Remaining work to satisfy acceptance: (1) add a way to record a golden trace from real FirmwareEngine lockstep runs, (2) store a small recorded fixture in CoreSim tests, (3) add CI test that replays and diffs that fixture. Plan docs updated to reflect this gap.

Update: FirmwareEngine lockstep recording is now working end-to-end.

• Repro: python tools/rt_tool.py record-golden-trace
• Result: successfully writes CoreSim/tests/RobotTwin.CoreSim.Tests/Fixtures/golden_trace_v1.json (no longer times out waiting for OutputState).
• Root cause: FirmwareEngine named pipe reader could time out and disconnect while the client was idle waiting for firmware output.
• Fix: make pipe reads block instead of timing out/disconnecting; cancel pending I/O during Stop() so shutdown still works. (See FirmwareEngine/PipeManager.cpp.)
• Tooling: tools/GoldenTraceRecorder/Program.cs + tools/scripts/record_golden_trace.ps1.

This satisfies the “record a trace from real FirmwareEngine lockstep” part of the acceptance criteria; remaining items (if still desired) are around CI wiring + diff UX polish.
