Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

BitBishop aims to be a respectful, welcoming, and constructive project for everyone who wants to learn, contribute, or discuss chess engine development.

Participation in this project should be a positive experience regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, experience level, education, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Expected Behavior

Examples of behavior that help create a positive environment include:

  • being respectful, patient, and constructive
  • assuming good intent and discussing disagreements in good faith
  • giving technical feedback clearly and kindly
  • focusing on the code, the idea, or the behavior rather than the person
  • being generous with context when reporting bugs or suggesting changes
  • helping keep discussions welcoming to learners and first-time contributors

Unacceptable Behavior

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • harassment, threats, intimidation, or personal attacks
  • discriminatory or derogatory language
  • trolling, insulting comments, or deliberately inflammatory behavior
  • publishing private information without explicit permission
  • repeated bad-faith arguments or dismissive conduct toward contributors
  • any other conduct that would reasonably make participation unsafe or hostile

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all project spaces, including:

  • issues
  • pull requests
  • review comments
  • discussions around the repository
  • any public or private project communication reasonably connected to BitBishop

Reporting

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, please report it privately to the project maintainer rather than opening a public issue.

The preferred path is to contact the maintainer through GitHub:

Please include as much relevant context as you can, such as:

  • links to the conversation or content
  • screenshots or logs when appropriate
  • a short description of what happened
  • whether you believe there is an immediate safety concern

Enforcement

Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying and enforcing this Code of Conduct. They may remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, issues, or other contributions that violate this policy.

Depending on the severity and pattern of the behavior, maintainers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • a private warning
  • a request to stop the behavior
  • temporary restriction from project spaces
  • permanent ban from future participation

Reports will be reviewed as promptly and fairly as possible. The maintainer will make a best effort to protect the privacy and safety of everyone involved.
