Frontend has no error handling

If the frontend receives something from the backend that it does not know how to interpret, it will simply not render, instead of showing an error message.

Is this necessary for September launch? This should only be needed if something has gone wrong, correct?

I think the fact that nothing renders is an issue.
A simple "Connection Error. Please try again" would work fine.
