Description
This has come up a few times on Slack and some folks said they might have time to do it... I think it should cover at least:
- what the documents needed are and what they roughly mean (especially what the whole "office des poursuites" thing is)
- reasonable expectations in terms of rent, charges, and provided services
- the fact that it requires effort but is totally doable (i.e., the housing market is tight; some folks are really surprised by this because they come from places where they'd only have to do 1-2 visits)
- the fact that Swiss people have trouble too (yes, there's sometimes xenophobia especially in smaller "mom&pop" landlords, but the difficulty in finding a place is not a foreigner-only thing)
- tips&tricks such as "yes, visiting is really important, don't just submit your application online", "use Facebook groups or such places", ...
Also (and this is why it should probably be in "life" with a ref in "first" rather than only in the latter):
- what the special bank rate that can change rents up and down is, and what kind of rent increase you should accept/contest
- your duties as a tenant (not much? but, like, inform the landlord if something is wrong, keep the shared spaces including laundry rooms clean, ...)
- what ASLOCA is
- some examples of what is and isn't acceptable from your landlord, if people have any
