dconn and pconn files in workbench are assumed to be connectivity values between the same structure with itself (i.e. intracortical connectivity - so the connectivity matrix needs to be square).

dconn and pconn can have brain model mappings ("axes") with different structures (or other details, such as voxel resolution) for row versus column, for instance they can be generated with wb_command -cifti-cross-correlation between dtseries with different spatial structures (but matching timepoints). wb_view should display them the same way you demonstrate with dpconn and pdconn.
