Why is this work important to do?
This needs outlining so trainees know how to engage with AI in acceptable ways. It helps guide when a student has gone to far. It also aims to align volunteers on how to expect AI to be used amongst trainees.
Additional context
We need to strike a balance between trainees using AI to create a scaffold for them to build on and trainees generating the whole thing, for solo projects especially. One gives valuable experience in integrating new tools while the other restricts the planning and design elements of the project.

Add AI guidance to Checkpoint briefing and anywhere else relevant in first week of Checkpoint so trainees understand what is acceptable or not. Ideally also include examples of good and bad AI use. AI guidance exists on a broader level and explains what is acceptable for Checkpoint section of curriculum.
Add a small (30 min max) workshop into the first week of Checkpoint to ensure everyone has read and engaged with those AI guidelines (also helps volunteers be aware too).
Additional extra, add examples of appropriate AI use to each project README of the checkpoint if it feels appropriate, to guide what could be a good opportunity to prompt.
