Task `checkFilesGitIgnored` doesn't work on Windows for nested files (cmd and git bash)

If a file is not in the root of the repository then checkFilesGitIgnored always fails. I've tried putting .gitignore entry in every subdirectory with appropriate exact path but no luck; files in the repo root seem to work fine.

Not dug into this but could be a problem JGIT as I see you're using that for ignore checks.

Can you post here a simple file hierarchy to check? I do not have Windows but I think I can try to debug via CI and JUnit test.

Is it the correct one?

I've just decided to role my own git ignore check task using simple git CLI:

task checkFilesGitIgnoredNew(type: Exec) {
    def args = []
    if (isFamily(FAMILY_WINDOWS)) {
        args.add("cmd")
        args.add("/c")
    }
    args.add("git")
    args.add("check-ignore")
    args.add("-q")
    args.add(RELATIVE_PATH_TO_TEST)

    commandLine args
}

Just need to pass through plainFiles and this is sufficient for me.

Here's the finished gradle task that just uses git CLI and works ok for me:

Just tried 2.0.3 and this still doesn't work. Sticking with my own task defined above.
