Hello, I thought I'd share my findings with you.
On Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2
When I tested the script, the second Set-FileIntegrity command to turn off -Enforce didn't work, Enforce was left on.

Besides that, when I tested modifing the text file in one of the vhd with HxD (Hex editor) if I edited more than one bit the file repair operation worked as intended with -Enforce turned on. However, modifying only one bit like your script does gives me the results you're getting, failure to open and correct the file.

Best I can hope is Microsoft fixes it at some point.

Thanks for sharing this. It's interesting that you only saw it when performing a multi-bit edit - I've done testing with multi-bit errors and single-bit errors, but ended up writing the script to only perform a single-bit errors as in theory those are easier to detect (and we can't rely on our hard disks to corrupt 'in just the right way' anyway).

I wonder if you managed to replicate this over 5-10 attempts? The behaviour is very unpredictable and I find that ReFS can sometimes detect and repair just fine. (It often feels like it only fails if the corruption occurs on a given disk at a given time).

Hello, I'd like to also share. I ran the script on Windows Server 2022 Standard / Decembers 2025 Cumulative Update. With the mirror setup.

And unfortunately its the same as whats previously reported... when $sortdescending = $true refs doesn't heal the bad bit and then accidentally corrupts the remaining good bit on the untouched disk.

$sortdescending = $false refs heals the bad bit. But I didn't test this multiple times. Just once or twice.

Maybe Storage Spaces Direct would heal the bad bit by referencing the good bit from another node. We would have to setup a whole lab to do that and I'm scared to say if its the same results then its not the best look when comparing to the other scalers / hci.

@jamie-tech01 Can you try again with the latest version? I am trying to implement some changes based on #5 and interested to see what your feedback is.
