Links in the README are out of date

I wanted to install MESS without relying on Conda. However, the links to SLATEC and MPACK seem dead.

@moritzBens Thanks -- we need to update the README.

We are now compiling MESS as a standalone static executable. You can download the executable here and add it to your bin. This is essentially what we are doing for the conda distribution as well.

If you are on some form of UNIX, the executable should work as-is, but let us know if you have any issues on your machine and we can try to address it.
