Some projects may want to use GitHub releases with AppImageUpdate, but do not want to make "regular" releases until they reach a stable state. At the moment, latest does not take that into account.
I would propose to introduce a latest-pre mode to focus on prereleases only, and a latest-all mode which maps to prereleases and regular ones.
